![]() Rainbow Falls waterfall is located in the Smoky Mountains. This amazing waterfall gets its name from rainbows produced by mist from this 80-foot high waterfall. On sunny afternoons, this amazing sight can be seen! I stole this photo from pinterest... click on it for more info! It is a stunning image! Now, this hike is considered moderate difficulty. The terrain, duration and climb can be difficult for some. Rainbow Falls Trail gains about 1,500 feet in elevation as you climb upward. It's 5.4 miles round-trip and the Rainbow Falls Trail continues for approximately 4 miles beyond the falls all the way to the summit of Mount Le Conte. Please plan accordingly and factor in the amount of daylight you will have! This is NOT a hike to start later in the afternoon. As always, this is your friendly reminder to bring a flashlight... cell phone batteries run low and you'll be without light. Carry drinking water with you - you will need it! I don't know why people hike without water. Wear sturdy shoes. Portions of this trail are very rocky. ~ Elizabeth Azpurua
